Today in the Garden

I have been keeping a November "yard bird" list. You can see it to the left. I count anything I can see from the yard or in the yard. I added two new species today!

Here are some of my recent visitors.

Black-capped Chickadees, Chestnut-backed Chickadees, and Red-breasted Nuthatches come to a special feeder just for them. It is for clinging birds and I fill it with Black Oil Sunflower Seed, their favorite.

A male Downy Woodpecker came today. Right after he left, the female came in for some suet too.

I have many Anna's Hummingbirds. At one point three were chasing each other through the yard. I estimate maybe 5 are around at any given time. I have three feeders out and I'm thinking of getting another. They are very territorial and they all have special places they perch to guard "their" feeder.

A Song Sparrow singing.

Red-breasted Nuthatch at the suet. Although I have been hearing White-breasted Nuthatches in the neighboring oak trees, they have never visited the feeders. Today I heard them and could see them in the oaks....so I got to count them for my November list. I keep hoping they will visit my suet feeders.
