"My Birds" Love Suet Dough

I made some of Zick's Suet Dough the other day. I put some out and found it was all gone by the end of the day. Being suspicious, I thought the Starlings might be getting it all. I decided to do some detective work. This required the Bird Cam!

I hadn't used the Cam in a long time and didn't have much time to fiddle with it, so when I came home after being away for five hours, I found that I had almost a 1000 photos! About 889 looked like this:

The Juncos love this feeder! (House Finch in the background.)

But the Bushtits visited a few times. I have a flock of 30+ who make the rounds a few times a day.

I think the Scrub Jays made off with many of the big chunks. Note to self: crumble the suet more.

Song Sparrow and Golden-crowned Sparrow

Black-capped Chickadee and Junco

Spotted Towhee

Okay, now I know where all the suet went! I had multiple photos of this Squirrel making off with large chunks of suet. In many of the photos I could see him bounding around in the background.

Since then I have moved the suet dough to a new feeder that Squirrels can't reach.

But... tomorrow is a holiday, perhaps I will leave him a little present.

  1. Oh I miss the days of warblers and suet dough and the birdcam! Perhaps you have inspired me to reboot them all!

  2. What Birdnerd said... ditto.

  3. Wow, that must be a popular suet. Is it easy to make? Loved all the photos. I recently purchased the birdcam but it has not taken that many photos. How do you have ti set up?

  4. Yes, the suet dough is easy to make. I set up my bird cam on a tri-pod which makes it really versitile. I usually program it to take three photos every 30 minutes or so, but this time it just took pics all the time and I had a zillion! Its fun to play with.

  5. Ha! I love all the photos! I can't believe it took so many but I'm glad you took the time to post a bunch of them!
