Me and My Quail

I love my Quail.
He's a tight round ball of artistically striped feathers, bobbing head feathers (did you know it's called a plume and contains six overlapping feathers?), scratching about in the lawn, and running like a wind-up toy. I go to work everyday and update my nerdy bird loving co-workers about his antics. I tell them how he comes to eat under the feeders everyday between 8:00- 8:30am. I have been asked mulitple times if I have heard his call (I hadn't) and then we imitate the California Quail call: Chi-ca-go, Chi-ca-go! Then inevitablely someone says "Maybe he will find a girl quail and you will have baby quail!"
Baby Quail!!
Could you imagine anything more adorable??? And in my backyard!

Well when he showed up Sunday morning I tip-toed to the window to get some photos, but he is shy and flew to the side of the yard and proceeded to hop up into the apple tree and guess what?! He started calling!! The following video is for the audio, not much to see, but listen to my Quail call!

Such a handsome fella.
