After walking around Cooper Mountain, I came home to do some garden work. It seems something new is blooming all the time (including weeds!).
My frog is back- or at least I'm going to assume its the same one. I haven't posted any photos of him since July which was when he was last seen. I think I might actually have two. I was startled to see one on the edge of the water. The beast was gigantic. He went from cute to creepy over the winter! Then later I saw it again, or was it another? I will have to keep an eye out for it/them. I suspect they will devour all life in my pond, but I'm not sure there is much I can do about it.
Sometimes I see more birds in my garden than I do out in nature parks. The scrub jays are building a nest in a large bush on the side garden. Two years ago they built one there and I didn't even know till the juvenile had almost fledged. I only noticed this time because I saw them flying to and from that side of the house.

The crab apple will bloom soon and it makes the best photos with birds.
Bushtit
A couple of Juncos are still around. They usually nest nearby and I get juveniles visiting.

In other bird news- the Chestnut-backed Chickadees have been around eating suet, but I haven't seen them back at the birdhouse. Today when I was in the front yard weeding, I heard a tapping sound coming from a wren house I hung in a tree. This is the first year I have placed the house there. It has never been used and I decided to try a new location. I went over and looked at the house, and the tapping continued. I was just too curious, so I tipped the house to see if I could see anything and out popped an annoyed Black-capped Chickadee! So who knows who will be nesting in the boxes this year!
Fantastic photos ! I had a day of photo taking as well I took 198 photos I get snap happy in the spring and summer months lol ! Have a great day !
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Loved your chickadee story. Can't a bird have some privacy for heaven's sake!
