Ridgefield this Morning

Yep, there was a guy riding his bike (!!!) around. He had a fishing pole too. I was leaning over the passenger seat photographing the Red-tailed Hawk and he came up behind me out of no where and scared the crap out of me.  For half a second I thought that seemed like a great way to tour the refuge, then I realized it can't be legal. And it isn't.

Perfect morning on the refuge- 64 degrees with a light breeze. It was strangely quiet- literally. I guess all the baby birds are raised and courtship is long over. The Avocet was within good view, but too far out for good photos- but what a treat to see! Do you think those Barn Swallow are really still nesting this late?!

  1. The swallows are adorable and the hawk is an awesome shot. The avocet is a pretty bird, great sighting. the bittern is one of my favorites. Great shots from the refuge.

  3. So much to comment on here... Let's start with the dude on the bike! WTF. Never seen that before. Nice job on the avocet- better than my shots. Cool to see it swimming too. Oh and those Barn Swallows- I was looking at the nest thinking they must have moved on by now (on Saturday morning) and then focused on looking for the avocet. And then one of the swallows started flying around like a bat over my head and scared the crap out of me! Great post!

P.s. I got a house!!! Well... an offer accepted finally! I will definitely want to come see your garden sometime and take a bunch of notes.
