Fort Stevens
I'll admit, I'm sad that those are the best photos I could get. Ocean spray and dark skies didn't make it a great photo trip, but I'm so happy to finally meet a Snowy Owl! It was just me and the owls (3 total). I could have gone over on new years day, but I know there would have been dozens of photographers out.
I walked through the woods a bit. It was drier and sheltered from the wind. I really like the open ocean woods with fungi all over the place. I was startled to find that poor dead Surf Scoter in the woods. I stopped in Seaside and ate lunch at the ocean overlook and was entertained by a couple of eagles on the beach. It was a quick trip, but at least I'm not the only one who has never seen a Snowy Owl now!

So glad you got to see the owls!
ReplyDeleteNice photos ! A shame about the Surf Scoter though poor thing , but that's nature ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! And that's awesome that you had them all to yourself. Love all the awesome mushrooms and things... I ID-ed my first mushrooms yesterday (the turkey tails). Weird dead scoter in the woods, though after seeing that Peregrine with the Ring-necked Duck last month it seems a bit less weird... You should check out Coffenbury Lake at Ft Stevens if you haven't before- lots of shroomy goodness.
ReplyDeleteActually I really like the gull photo!
ReplyDeleteI think they are good photos, very representative of the area. I love Ft Stevens. Makes me want to go visit!
ReplyDeleteI just love your photography. I'm so envious of the Snowy Owl sighting!
