A visit to Ankeny this afternoon rewarded us with a about 35 species. It was hot and not the ideal time of day, but still nice. Supposedly a Pectoral Sandpiper is something to get excited about, but this Acorn Woodpecker (not the bill full of bugs!) stole the show for me.
Ha! I hope someday you have a change of heart with shorebirds... Pectorals are pretty cool! But yeah, Acorn Woodpeckers are too.
