Commonwealth Lake

Finally a good showing of waterfowl! The Gadwall stole my heart. The sunshine on their feathers was gorgeous! The lake was bustling with Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Bufflehead, two Kingfisher, two Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Wigeon, Pied-billed Grebe, and more. This spot looks promising for future birdwalks.

  1. Am I crazy or did you put a "real" GWF Goose next to a "fake" one? Or are they both fake domestic things? I feel like I'm being tested here! Good to see you guys today!

  2. I love the gadwall too! We've been seeing a good showing of them on a little dammed stream with excellent waterfowl habitat. We saw probably at least 30 wood ducks there last week along with p.b. grebes, n. shovelers, mallards and the show stoppers - hooded mergansers. Those male colors are almost unbelievable!
